About The Book

Introduction

The gospel of John stands apart from the other gospels because John’s audience was the world. Matthew’s audience was the Jews, Mark’s audience was the Greeks, and Luke’s audience was the Romans. However, John addresses his gospel to everyone, including you and me. His goal was to prove that Jesus was the Son of God and that He was fully man and God. Jesus was the God-Man. Many false teachers had slipped into the church, and John wrote to show that anyone who did not confess that Jesus Christ was God the Son, had an antichrist spirit. In these end times, arm yourself with the truth of God’s Word so that you can avoid the deception of the antichrist spirits.

Jesus told John that he had to “come up higher” so that he could give him the revelation of the end times. Jesus also calls us to “come up higher” so we can grow in the deeper knowledge of God. This Bible Study of the gospel of John enables us to “come up higher” in the revelation and knowledge of Jesus Christ. During one of the chapter studies, God gave a participant a vision of the cross turning into a ladder and her climbing the cross. This Bible Study is the realization of this vision. Study to show yourself approved and grow in the deeper things of God.

CHAPTER ONE
Jesus Is The Word Of God

John 1:1-18

• Who is the Word, and what does it mean by “He was with God in the beginning?” Define the Trinity. How does the New World Translation, which is the Bible of the Jehovah’s Witnesses, translate John 1:1? What other versions of the Bible are you familiar with, and how is John 1:1 translated from the original Greek?

• Define darkness and explain how it came into the earth. Can darkness overcome light? Why do some people resist the light when they know that they are in darkness?

• Who was John, and why did he come into the world?(See verse 11.) How was Jesus in the world, and the world did not recognize Him? Who was His own, and how did His own not receive Him? Were the Jewish people expecting Jesus?

• Who does Jesus give the right to become children of God? See Romans 10:9-13. How did the Word become flesh and what does John mean that “He who comes after me has surpassed me because He was before me?”

John 1:19-28

• Who were the ‘Jews in Jerusalem,’ and why did they send the priest and Levites to go to John to ask him who Jesus was? Is Christ Jesus’ last name, and what does the word Christ mean?

John 1:29-34

• Why did John describe Jesus as the ‘lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world?’ Which chapter in the book of Isaiah prophesied of Jesus bearing the sins of human beings which the Jews were familiar with? How did John know that Jesus was the Messiah? What does the word Messiah mean, and how does Jesus baptize with the Holy Spirit?

John 1:35-42

• What should we do when we find the Messiah?

John 1:43-50

• Why did Nathanael ask, “Can anything good come from Nazareth?” Why did God the Father choose to have Jesus grow up in Nazareth instead of a more prestigious city? How did Jesus know Nathanael and how is it possible for him to have seen him under the fig tree?
